This story is nothing to do with the CofE really, but it got to me, and has often come to mind because it is sad.
I knew a carer in a church, he cared mainly for men, as a male carer, as well as working with people on the autistic spectrum.
He told me a story of a man who he cared for who was feeling sad because his marriage was under strain from his illness.
So this carer talked to his client and said, well meaning, 'How about telling your wife you love her and you would love a big hug?'
The wife came home while the carer was still there, and the man said to his wife 'I really love you and am sad thing have been difficult, I would love to give you a big hug'.
The wife replied by saying 'I would rather hug the dog'.
That is a sad story isn't it?
